Dad to Sarah and Micah
A little girl is born in China. She's too precious to discard, too expensive to keep. So, she's placed in a basket and dropped off near the police station where she'll be found. She spends her first months in an orphanage, not knowing what a mommy or daddy is. Across the world, a mommy and a daddy get a picture of the girl--an answer to their prayers. Though the journey that has brought them to this picture has been long, it is but the first step in an even longer journey…parenthood.

Nobody Wanted You?
Micah: "Dad, when were you born?"
Me: I told her the year.
Micah: "How old were you?"
Me: "I was zero years old."
Micah: "And, then you got adopted?"
Me: "No, I never got adopted."
Before I could finish, she gasped dramatically and said, "What? Did nobody wanted you???"

Little Bit Confusing
How can someone who brings me so much joy and happiness and delight also make me so profoundly sad? Little Bit confusing.

Serious About Legos
Sarah and I were playing with Legos yesterday. We were trying to build a firetruck RV (or an RV firetruck). I was being creative (goofy) and putting some pieces together and giving them to Sarah to add to this 8-wheeled vehicle. Granted, they were silly subassemblies. But, we were playing, after all.
Finally, she said, "Dad? I don't want to hurt your feelings. But, you're not being very productive."
All I could think was, "You're nine! Why are you talking like that?"
She's going to be a great boss someday!

Micah is becoming a sweet girl. Well, she's on her way to becoming a sweet girl, at least. She isn't acting out as much as before, even though she still loses control sometimes. That's usually when she's tired or hungry. But, she's making progress. And, that's encouraging. She loves doling out little kisses, and she finally likes to sit and just hug. That's something she hated even just a few months ago. She's blossoming and it makes me think maybe we're doing something right, though it's probably all her.
Sarah is getting ready for her 2nd kung fu tournament. She's a yellow belt, now. So, she's going to have some stiffer competition. She decided not to do the "Walk with Danger" probably because she didn't get a ribbon last semester. She placed 4th, and that was without much practice at all. This time, she's going to do the Escape Drill (she got 1st place last time), and she'll do 4 new events: Fastest Fist, Fastest Foot, Strongest Punch, Strongest Kick. She hasn't done much practicing, and the event is in 5 days. So, it's time to cram! She's doing great in school. Her teachers love her and so do her classmates. She's almost 9 and growing up so fast.
Julie is enjoying retirement and can't believe how little time she has left over in a day after she runs her errands and volunteers and does work at home. She's substituting at 2 private schools, which is easy work for her, and I think it's rewarding for her, too.

The Christmas Story
Sarah was explaining the Christmas story to me yesterday while we were driving around:
Sarah: "Mary & Joseph couldn't find a hotel, so they went to a barn. And, when Jesus was born, they put him in a manger."
Me: "What's a manger?"
Sarah: "It's where they feed the animals."
Me: "What do you think the animals thought when they saw the baby Jesus lying in a manger?"
Sarah: "I think they said, 'I'm not going to eat THAT!'"
I nearly had a wreck I laughed so hard. (And, she was probably right!)

New Blog Name
Hearing no opposition from my one dear follower, I have changed the name of this blog to include my beautiful daughter #2, Micah.

Should I Change My Blog Name?
I named the blog Sarah's Dad when I was dad to only Sarah. Now, I'm dad to Sarah and Micah. And that presents a bit of a cunundrum. For the many, many followers of this highly productive blog (annual posts now topping 1/year with a readership of maybe 1), would it cause too much confusion if I were to change the name to Sarah and Micah's Dad? I would hate for Micah to feel left out just so I could accommodate my many readers. But, I would also hate for all my readers to lose track of this blog if I were to change the blog's name.
Decisions...decisions...decisions.
Well, I'll leave it up to my readers. Let me know if you DON'T want me to change the name. Based on my readers' feedback, I'll make my decision by the next time I post a blog.
